Chapter Member Credo
Teamwork is simply you and I working well together to achieve a common purpose. As a chapter member, I acknowledge and value the unique needs and creative abilities of each brother and sister, yet I understand that, through synergy, we can be stronger and more effective as a unit.
I understand that it is my role to work continually on the two important aspects of teamwork: (1) getting the job done and (2) relating well to one another.
I understand that to perform well as a chapter member, I must learn new skills and take risks to express my ideas and try new approaches. I understand that it is my role to listen and carefully consider the ideas of others and to support them when they take risks. When others do a good job or go out of the way to help me or the chapter, I will remember to say “Thank you.”
When problems or misunderstandings occur between me and my chapter mates, I will commit to resolving conflicts without resorting to the use of power or authority, or to win at the expense of the other’s losing. I respect your need, but I must also respect my own.
I will not think of our chapter as “an island unto itself,” but will find opportunities to link up with those outside to gain support, knowledge, and understanding. I will encourage my chapter to reach out and learn from others who have been there before us or who are struggling as we are.
And, finally, I understand that successful performance as a chapter is not a stop or an event, but a process, a continual evolution of awareness and growth. Chapters, like teams, move forward in stages, and progress is not always even. Throughout the process of our chapter’s development, I will keep the destination foremost in my mind: working together in mutual respect for continually improved performance.
